We liked the blinds very much. The color was not the same as the blackout blinds so that disapointed me. We also had to do some trimming of the side magnets to fit them to the windows. All in all after we got used to the different color we like them and are so much warmer with them in the windows so that is really what we wanted....

I installed seven 28 x 65 inch translucent, bottom up, top down, comfort track blinds in our sun room which has a lot of windows and includes a five foot wide sliding glass door. The blinds are beautiful and they really do work well in keeping out the cold when I can get them to close all the way to the window. The blinds have made the normally cold sun room (during winter) warm. They work on this level.

As I told Blinds Chalet representative “Stacey” on the phone after I had installed the blinds, I wish I had not ordered the top down, bottom up versions. Why? Because the blinds do not easily and always “let themselves down” to the window sill. I don’t know that the problems are due to the top down/ bottom up mechanism, but our Hunter Douglas bottom down blinds in the living room easily unlock and drop to the window sill. So, maybe having two sets of strings in the blinds tends to bind up the drop down mechanism.

Sometimes, I can raise one of the comfort track blinds all the way to the top, lock it, and then unlock it and it does drop/ unfold all the way to the window sill. Other times, when I unlock the blinds, and let them slowly or quickly descend, the blind will stop 30” or 20” or 5” or 3” or sometimes even ½” from the window sill. I have raise the blinds up again, lock and unlock them, and let them drop. Sometimes I can get them to drop in one re-raise and one re-drop. Other times, it may take me five mini-raisings and droppings to get the blinds to completely unfold and rest securely on the window sill and complete the “seal.” Sometimes, when the blinds stop about ½ inch to ¾” from the window sill, I can push them all the way down to rest on the window sill.

And, it doesn’t seem to be one or two blinds that have problems. I haven’t recently run a test on all seven blinds to see if I can isolate the problem to particular blinds. That would be nice if we just had one or two renegade blinds. But, I got a feeling it is an intermittent problem with them all.

My wife who doesn’t like confrontations, says “Oh well, you eventually can get the blinds down all the way even it takes you a few minutes for a few of them.” And she is right. With some trouble we can make them work. But, personally, I am bothered when things I make or buy don’t work like they should. Unfortunately, I don’t know how to fix these blinds.

I tried with one of the blinds lengthening the bottom sill by undoing the “locks” on the four or five inches of string that come out of two “ports” on the very bottom of the blinds and leaving only 2 to 3 inches showing. But, that didn’t have any effect on the problem I have.

I thought that if I had ordered blinds that were way too long nominally for our windows (e.g., 75" long instead of the window measurement of 64 3/4" ) that that extra length would allow the blinds to drop all the way in one unlocking to the window sill).

Bottom line: I wanted to get some more comfort track blinds for our bedroom and our master bath room. But even though when closed they really do seal out cold, I can’t bring myself to order more blinds that don’t release easily to the window sill. Some friends asked about the blinds but I just didn't do my usual "push" of a product that I like. Sorry.

I thought of taking some video of me dealing with the problem I have described and sending it to you on a CD so you can see and maybe diagnose the problem. If you are interested and think it would help, I can do that.

When I talked with Stacey on the phone a few weeks back, I noted to her that the instructions speak about wrapping the really long cords around the “cleats.” Well, I didn’t get any cleats with the blinds. I don’t know if one is supposed to, but it appears that each window needs two cleats. Is that true?

Our customer care department will provide a Return Authorization Number (RGA) and shipping address for the return.
